After the incredible success of PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds and Fortnite, battle royale games are quickly evolving, moving past the genre’s humble beginnings as mods for large-scale survival games.
This year promising will come with new battle royale games that aim to push the genre further by expanding its most well established tenets. In order to make sure that you won’t miss any latest games in this genre, we’ve compiled a top 05 of the biggest battle royale games list that will be released in 2018.
One thing that you should know about these 05 games that we’re about to introduce: they’re all free!
1. Darwin Project:
One of the most anticipated games of 2018 is The Darwin Project. Originally revealed in E3 2017, the game is set in the wild where unlike the other BR games.
Instead of randomly running into other players as a circle shrinks around them (like Fortnite), they can track one another down by following footprints in the snow, finding clues that point them to nearby players, and even by viewing a map found in certain areas that shows every other player’s location.
After struggling to attract players in Early BETA phase, Darwin Project has switched to a free-to-play model hoping to cut down on long match queue times.
Available on: PC, Xbox One
Price: Free on PC (via Steam Store), or $14.99 / £12.49 on Xbox One.
2. Radical Heights:
One of the more recent releases on this list is Radical Heights, a brand new free-to-play Battle Royale game from Boss Key Productions, developer of Lawbreakers. The game was announced last April and then was released it into Early Access a day later. Like Fortnite, Radical Heights graphic style is more into colorful, silly road than the ‘traditional’ PUBG Battle Royale games. It helps that it’s a ‘80s-infused romp with a game show setting filled with prizes, cash, ziplines, trampolines, BMXs and a hell of a lot of neon.
It’s in a rough Alpha state, but Radical Heights is already a lot of fun and is an accessible alternative to the military grittiness of PUBG and the intimidating building systems of Fortnite. This game is still on early phase, so be prepared for a few bugs and quirks in amongst the hilarity.
3. Day of Infamy:
It is pretty surprise that the FPS online game Day of Infamy has been announced that it will be free to download starting from 26th April onward. According to the Developers, they want to remake this game in order to attract more players.
Experience close-quarters battles in iconic WWII settings. Defend the line, storm the beach, torch the enemy, or use a radio to call in fire support. Day of Infamy is a teamwork-oriented shooter that will keep you on your toes and coming back for more with its diverse game modes and authentic arsenal.
Another interesting feature that Day of Infamy has is “Carpet Bombing“, which really exciting as the soldiers of every nation could call their tech support. For example: American soldiers can call Mustangs to run faster or German soldiers will able to call out Stuka air support, etc.
4. Crossout Battle Royale:
Following the successfully of PUBG Battle Royale mode, in Crossout you will have 32 players fighting each other in a large map called Blood Rocks, where players could find weapons, upgrade parts for your own vehicle in order to get ready for the battle. The last survivor will be honored with great achievements.
- Unique vehicles, crafted by players using a wide range of available parts.
- Complete freedom of creativity and thousands of possible combinations.
- Advanced damage model.
- A huge arsenal of weapons.
- Your own workshop.
- Trading options between players.
- Choose your own battle strategy.
5. Paladins Battlegrounds:
Starting off with existing game titles, Paladins game developers Hi-Rez Studios were among the first major organizations to reveal a Battle Royale mode for the game at their Hi-Rez Expo, and later announced it would become a standalone spinoff called Realms Royale.
It’s not shying away from comparisons – the mode was originally called Battlegrounds – and it will feature 100 players dropped onto a map to search for weapons and do battle while fog closes around them. The map is said to be 300 times larger than a standard Paladin’s map, and mounts will take the place of vehicles.
Paladins Battlegrounds will be released as completely free of charge, but at the moment, only selected players will be able to play this game as it is still under Testing phase.
By understanding that there’s plenty of battle royale games out there, we’ve decidedly narrowed it down to top 05 best games that we believe they won’t let you down. Many of the latest battle royale games are expanding upon it by throwing new mechanics into the mix. It’s exciting to see how some developers are pushing the genre to entirely new directions, especially when they making it free to play!
